The Savle Tsereteli Institute of Philosophy at Ilia State University (ISU) has won the Oxford University grant contest “New Horizons for Science and Religion in Central and Eastern Europe” for the second time and has been awarded two-year funding from the John Templeton Foundation.

The winning project “Aristotle’s ‘Categories’ in Eastern and Western Christian World” has two main objectives. The first is to prepare a critical edition of Anton I Catholicos’ commentary on Aristotle’s “Categories”. The second objective is to conduct a philosophical study, comparing this commentary with Latin ones on the same text by Aristotle. The project outcome is to highlight the possible impact of philosophical and theological theories developed by Latin authors. The commentary by Anton I on Aristotle’s “Categories” will be translated into English as part of the project.

The project is led by Professor Dr. Tamar Tsopurashvili of Ilia State University. ISU Assistant Professor Dr. Tamar Khubulava and doctoral students Ana Lomadze, Luka Kuchukhidze and Tornike Goginashvili are involved in the project.
